Teacher Training

12 National Young Farmers Coalition (NYFC) Food Safety Fellows were chosen for the 2021 cohort. The beginning of our food safety journey brought us Introduction to Popular Education and Facilitation coursework. This coursework helps us better understand how to deliver learning objectives to our farm communities in culturally relevant and culturally affirming ways.

PSA Certification

The Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) is a collaboration between Cornell University, FDA, and USDA to prepare fresh produce growers to meet the regulatory requirements included in the US FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule. We have completed this coursework and I am a certified PSA trainer. NYFC is also giving us the opportunity to become PSA lead trainers, as well.

Local Assistance

This milestone wraps up the fellowship. In this section we will bring the food safety knowledge we have obtained back to our respective farming communities. We will each provide one learning opportunity, create one new resource for beginner farmers in our communities, and write three reflections on food safety throughout our communities and on our farms.
