Growing, Gleaning and Giving

About EcoRadio

EcoRadio KC is a magazine show, including live segments, prerecorded stories, and interviews. The weekly explores our interdependence with the rest of the world, showing the connections between the ways we choose to live and the health of the whole community of life.

Learn about Kathy’s efforts to raise corn to donate and how she has created a partnership with After the Harvest gleaners over the past several years.  Since 2017, Kathy has donated 13,722 lbs. of corn, which After the Harvest staff and volunteers delivered to Harvesters.  Pantaleon Florez is a Lawrence farmer, educator, sociolinguist and Mexica herbalist who donates a portion of his annual crops to those in need.

After the Harvest rescues nutritious fruits and vegetables from going to waste and donates them to agencies that serve hungry people, primarily in Greater Kansas City. Our volunteers glean after the harvest, picking what’s left in farmers’ fields and picking up already harvested leftover produce. The majority of the funds we raise helps secure semi-truckloads of donated produce that might otherwise end up in landfills. After the Harvest, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the largest local produce donor to Harvesters—The Community Food Network.
